Calo Rioja is a modern and expressive Tempranillo created by third generation winemaker Javier Murua. In the keeping with the new wave of winemaking sweeping Rioja, Javier avoids the traditional long maturation in old oak to focus on fruit vibrancy and purity.

Calo Rioja Tempranillo is sourced from Rioja Alavesa in the foothills of the Cantabrian Mountains. Rioja Alavesa is the finest sub-region of Rioja. A patchwork of small vineyards are planted in very poor, sandy soils on the lower slopes. Very low yields, along with cooler night temperatures, create wines with intensity matched by elegance and defined structures.

Launched in July 2010, the wine is going from strength to strength and can now be found in many restaurants and bottleshops across Sydney and Melbourne, with Brisbane and Perth soon to follow.
