Love a Bargain? Ben Thomas on Calo Tempranillo
Love a Bargain? With a Miro-inspired label, this comes from 30-year-old bush vines and it has loads of character — on the one hand it’s rather polished and on the other it’s full of rustic charm. True to the joven style, this spent four months ageing in oak barrels. Its bouquet is of dark cherries, spice, leather and blackberries and a swallow reveals complex flavours of cherry, strawberry, raspberry, earth and nuts. Bright, light acid and fine, grippy tannins drive a savoury finish.
